A goldsmith for the last 15 years, Marte creates exquisite work in precious metals and gemstones, as well as tile mosaics, paintings and sculptures, all of which have been exhibited in galleries throughout the Southeast.
“My body of work explores the ancient flow of connectedness toward modern life, thru manipulation of metals, selection of stones and symbolism integrated design. Sometimes whimsical and always with concentration on exquisite craftsmanship, each piece reflects life's ever changing tableau thru color, texture and design..."
I strive for works that are functional wearable and timeless.”
The man who works with his hands labors...“I enjoy working with unique stones; ones that challenge my capabilities, both in design and technical aspect. Color and pattern are important for me as well, as I combine silver and gold with colored stones to achieve visual balance. ”
“Having studied, researched and labored as a working artist for the last 20 years, I continue manifesting and perfecting my jewelers’ skills, most of which are the natural outpouring of 3 generations of familial expertise. It’s in my blood. After obtaining a BFA from Georgia State University, I was taught the art of jewelry at my fathers’ side; I then continued to hone my skills thru attending prestigious jewelry workshops at such venues as The Revere Academy and the Gem Institute of America.”
Marte McMurry and her husband, Harvey, travel extensively throughout the world where they pursue their passion for archeology and total solar eclipses. She is proud of her families’ jewelry heritage, passed down thru her grandfather Ed and father, Mac. Their imagination, good humor and love continue to shape the stories each one of Marte’s original works of art has to tell.
